Google Adwords Policy Change

this is quite important. if you use Adowrds to deliver trafifc to your affiliate programs please note the folloing from Google:

With this new affiliate policy, we will only display one ad per search query for affiliates and parent companies sharing the same URL. This way, users will have a more diverse sampling of advertisements to choose from. As always, your ad will be displayed based on its Ad Rank for given searches.

For instance, if a user searches for books on Google.co.uk or anywhere on the Google search and content networks, Google will take an inventory of ads running for the keyword books. If we find that two or more ads compete under the same URL, we will display the ad with the highest Ad Rank.

How this will affect you:

If you are an affiliate, this means that you no longer need to identify yourself as an affiliate in your ad text. However, your current ad text will continue to display your affiliate status until you change it.

Affiliates or advertisers using unique URLs in their ads will not be affected by this change. Please note that your Display URL must match the URL of your landing page, and you may not simply frame another site.

What you should do:

We recommend that you continue to monitor your ads' performance and optimise your ads as needed to ensure that they are bringing you the best results. Please visit our Optimisation Tips page for more information.

One thing I am currently doing is trying to figure out this google algo change. Yesterday I pointed you to a dup content filter forum on Webmasterworld.

This could have been a knee jerk reaction on my behalf. I received a link to this today from Brad Fallon and it makes more sense:

Google Changes

Not sure if you have, but we have noticed a change in the way Google is ranking sites. We have dropped from first page to no page on some of our sites.

There are two main theries. One Google is penalizing non relevant inbound links? Can;t see how that would work.

Two, Google is applying a duplicate content filter. Check this post at WebmasterWorld:

It is long but page 40 odd I think talks about "&filter=0" which is what shows the difference in the rankings.

You may or may not know that publishing articles on a topic is a great way of driving traffic and boosting YOUR PROFILE.

One of the other things I have been doing over the last month is listening and implementing strategies to improve my search enigne rankins to get more traffic and hopefully more sales.

Is Google still "King of the Hill"?

It appears we still all chase the #1 listing or first page listing in Google to the exclusion of everything else!

However, a new study has shonw this may not the case.

Recent studies show Google user loyalty is beginning to fade as the gap on search engine competition closes. According to Forrester analyst Charlene Li, more and more Google users are setting their browser homepages to Yahoo and MSN. In a separate study, Kirk Bannerman of http://www.business-at-home.us noted that the most popular engines over a 90-day period were:

Google: 33%
Yahoo: 31%
MSN: 23%
All others: 13%

Maybe its time to look at the Yahoo and the new MSN. It appears that you could be missing out on traffic.

Try looking at www.nichebot.com! It may or may not be new but it is to me.

It uses Wordtracker and Google to produce a report on keyword phrases and identifies gaps which you can then exploit! GRIN!

New Article: Linking for Traffic not Positioning!

With more and more experts and search engine enthusiasts claiming the right way and the wrong way to handle link swapping, link exchanging or reciprocal linking!

You can tell something is important when there is more than one name for it! GRIN!

There are also two schools of thought on the reasons link swapping.

The first reason for link swapping has always been to carry favour with Search engine rankings. Have a good site with lots of links and this is seen as a good thing and therefore Search Engines will rank you higher.

Sadly, like all things in life, this system can be abused and taken to the extreme. Sites are buying in hundreds if not thousands of links trying to "boost" their ranking artificially. This is fine in the short term but we are starting to see a fundamental shift in Search Engine algorhythms.

My last article of link swapping , If Content is King, then surely relevance is Queen! explains my personal view of relevant linking which is still follow.
There is now a second and perhaps more disturbing reason for swapping links.

To build a useful link resource or directory for your visitors.

With working with similar themed sites, swap links to build a directory service which can share and drive traffic to sites within it. Some have even claimed this can drive more traffic that a Search engine ranking.

So how do I create this vision of loveliness.

Simple, build an on topic directory of your major site content.
There are a couple of great tools you can use to automate this process.

These tools will add new sections, manage your directory structure, and allow you to add links or even allow others to add their own links which you just approve.

This can all be run from a web browser so you can be swapping links sat on the beach or in fact from anywhere.

They are so simple to use you could get family to help outtoo! GRIN!

Remember, Search Engines change their algorhythms all thetime and you could fall out of favour at any time.

Finally sorted my life out and start to Blog!

I think it is about time and a great way to stay in touch with all of the affiliates from all the different programs I am involved in managing or consulting on.
